Overall joint winners of Best Kept Sports Club were Meole Brace Bowling Club and Hadnall Bowling Club. Don Harrison, Meole Brace B.C. secretary said "It's the first time we knew about the awards so I decided to enter the club. It's absolutely fantastic, it's a reward for the officials who have done a lot over the last few years working on a tight budget. A good entry considering the time of year, with 52 bowlers starting at 12.00 midday and the weather being good to us. Coupled with a 40th Birthday Celebration for a past President in the name of "Mark Hinks" the venue looked very pleasantly decorated and added to the atmosphere of the occassion. Thankfully it had cooled down slightly for the weekend but still remained shirtsleeves and shorts order for many of the competitors. A cooling shower arrived, appropriately for tea time, and the usual high standard of hospitality for our bowlers and guests was again portrayed by the catering staff for the day. Our grateful thanks to Pauline Hunter and her team. The competition finished at 8.30pm with a closely fought match between John "Bookie" Maddox and Andy "Stav" Jones with "Stav" eventually running out the overall winner. Leading Lady in the competition was Anne Parrish and Tom Jones headed the Leading Junior. After the presentations, we were entertained by John Martin singing and playing us out until midnight and a good day was had by all. We now look forward to the next major competition being the "Sherlock Cup" on 25th July. Many thanks to all those who supported and assisted on the day.
